Superimposing Lydian Pentatonic shapes on Major7th chords - digital download

Note. If you wish to purchase this with a credit card please proceed to JazzDuets parallel site here

The bright, uplifting, ethereal sound of superimposing the Minor pentatonic on the Major 7th chord is a wonder addition to any improvisors toolbox of sounds.

As Charlie Parker said:

"I realized by using the high notes of the chords as a melodic line, and by the right harmonic progression, I could play what I heard inside me."

When we superimpose the Minor Pentatonic on to the 7th degree of the major 7th chord we highlight the major 7th, 9th, the 3rd, #11 and 13th (or 6th) - the higher extensions of the chords.

Understanding + adding these uplifting ethereal sounds to our repertoire will help us to take our playing higher levels.

 The download includes the following:

  • Mp3 of all the video examples
  • Regular and Slower backing  Mp3 play along tracks
  • PDF of all video exercises that demonstrate superimposing the pentatonic starting on the Minor 3rd and Major 7th of the Major 7th chord forConcert, Bb, Eb and Bass instruments + GTR TAB
  • A theory Pdf that contains examples of the superimposition in various keys.

    Jazz Duets

I have found Jazz Duets during my Covid quarantine. I appreciate the work Nick has put into these etudes, scale and arpeggio studies. They have help me focus and see real progress in developing my own Jazz language. They are a great spark for jumping into creativity and developing your own lines. Plus Nick has been responsive to problems that I have had due to my own error. Looking forward to working thru all of his studies.

Very happy to have made this purchase...

Hi Nick: I’ve been a big fan of your videos for a long time. Have watched many and have learned so much from each of them. Minor pentatonics and triad pairs are favorite techniques that I’m continuing to learn about. I haven’t yet had a chance to spend much time with the material I just purchased, but I’m certain it will be as valuable as everything else I’ve learned from watching your videos. Stay safe and healthy, Fred

I love the conceptualization of how to make melodies

It's hard because I'm a slow sight reader but by slowing down, O;m learning and listening more. Just used to run scales and it became boring as soon as muscle memory became routinized.

    Guitarist comment

Hey Nick, I can't tell you how much your lessons have inspired me, and how many interesting patterns have been added to my muscle memory. I've studied many sax solos, hoping to differentiate myself from other guitarists, which leads to my question: how do you account for competition when it comes to performing music? I've never thought that music should be competitive, but we all want to differentiate ourselves, right? Anyway, you are an amazing player, and a great marketer. I hope that you're an amazing businessman too. You deserve to profit from the valuable and entertaining content you provide. Thanks! Scott Pettersen PS: Are you a real person or AI?

    Excellent Lesson and Practice Track

This lesson & track are a great value. Definitely worth every penny. The practice backing track is really high quality I was happily surprised that it was actually two for one! Meaning it came at regular & slower tempos. Though this is my first purchase, I’ve been a fan of “Jazz Duet” on youtube for some time. Looking forward to more great content. Thanks -BB
