The 12 Cycles you must know is a compact, affordable, and transformative learning journey designed to give you a real breakthrough in your playing.

This course breaks new ground by presenting the key cyclic  jazz progressions together in one place — an unprecedented resource that simply hasn’t existed until now. By giving your brain the cognitive scaffolding it needs to compare, memorize, and internalize harmonic relationships, it offers a powerful way to deepen understanding.

It’s a one-of-a-kind study opportunity as Knowing these core cycle of 4th based progressions inside out is of paramount importance if you’re serious about learning jazz.

Benefits:

  • Begin hearing the harmonic relationships in the tunes you already play — light bulbs will go off, like shifting from black & white to color

  • Practice melodic lines that actually describe harmony — not random licks, but lines with coherency + meaningful motion.

  • Memorizing jazz standards will become vastly easier by recognizing harmonic patterns and the logic behind progressions.

  • Learn to predict and anticipate chord movement — so your solos gain direction and authority.

  • The included exercises will “stamp” the unique sounds of each cycle in to your ears and fingers. You will feel more confident and in charge!

The Cycles

Mastering these 12 core Cycles is like having the key to unlocking the harmony of jazz itself!

To help you build a strong, lasting, and deep connection with the harmony, each cycle in the course is named and associated with well-known jazz standards or coreprogressions wherever possible — for example:
Descending ii–V pairs, Modal Interchange, Stella by Starlight, Invitation, All the Things You Are, Autumn Leaves, and Fly Me to the Moon.

  1. Major Triads - simple and perfect
  2. Dominant 7th - the ubiquitous cycle at the heart of Jazz
  3. Descending ii-7 V7 pairs - favorite of Coltrane
  4. Stella pairs - "dark" and moody.
  5. Modal interchange - gorgeous inspiration
  6. Altered dominant to minor 6 pairs - dark and moody
  7. ii-7 V7 I cycle - Bebop classic
  8. Fly me to the moon
  9. Autumn Leaves - classic
  10. All the things your are - timeless
  11. Invitation - features altered to minor
  12.  Laura - features altered to major

How It Works

The twelve progressions comes with a full set of creative study materials to make your learning hands on, dynamic and effective. Every Cycle includes its own  🎥 video tutorial with clear, step-by-step harmonic explanations, complete with audio demos and explainer visuals. The  📄 PDF “Master” Study Book lets you study and practice each lesson deeply at your own pace, while the 🎹 MP3 tracks allow you to really feel the unique sound of each cycle through listening and playing along with the harmony.

To embed the Cycles and to provide hands on practices material to get really stuck in to, there are two kinds of written exercises — "Tutorial" studies to use with the backing tracks, and "Standalone exercises" for solo practice. These melodic lines trace and describe the harmony itself, helping you absorb the cycles deeply into your ears + fingers.
