John Coltrane's  beautiful tune 'Wise One ' from his Classic 'Crescent' album

provides the inspiration for this tutorial.

We take some of Pianist McCoy Tyner stunning harmonic ideas and use them to construct triad pairs which we then interpolate on a static minor chord evoking different sound emotions.

The Triad Pair system is an incredibly powerful tool for the improvisor to master.

In this tutorial stunning real life examples are used as inspiration.

The instant digital download contains the following files zipped and individually:

  • Mp3 Fender Rhodes play along of the tune
  • The Melody of Wise on for Bb, Eb , C + Bass Instruments instruments
  • The E minor drone
  • The B7 #9 altered drone
  • The 5 notated  interpolated triad pair patterns shown in the video for C, Bb, Eb Bass instruments.

Great for a beginner

I love this little pack. As a new student of jazz (3years on Alto) this is just the right speed for me. Content I understand and can play. Working with triads is still slow and new for me and this is the perfect combination of a beautiful song to aspire to in my playing and a very functional exercise that helps me build on my understanding of the material. Thank you!

John Coltrane - Triad pair tutorial

Excellent quality resources and great value at only $1.99. I even received an update a few days ago. The "Wise One" backing track is just what I've been looking for and the Triad Pair exercises are very useful. Thanks very much.

All went well..

Good. The tutorials are top shelf, Nick is an incredible musician. It’s pretty complex most of his material, but there’s always something to be learned.

Good stuff

This was very useful, and enabled me to get a little closer to the lovely sound you get on soprano in your playing of triad pairs. It's great to have a notated version of Coltrane’s Wise One, an old favourite. Thanks very much and for this and all your youtube tutorials which I always enjoy and find useful.
