Looking for a fun, new, fresh introduction to Jazz/Blues duet playing?
Look no further!
This collection of 9 lively pieces (16 pages) is ideal for Clarinet players of modest abilities who are just starting out and want a fun introduction to duet playing in the Jazz idiom.
The original pieces that explore the Blues and Jazz styles are carefully written in comfortable keys, so as not to overwhelm young players. The lower part is slightly more challenging to play, suitable for a player who is a little more experienced.
Ideal for Practice sessions, classes or performance situations.
I am a band director and clarinet teacher in southeastern Louisiana, USA. A student of mine came across some of your beginner jazz clarinet duets and was trying to learn them off of the YouTube videos, showed me the video and I thought they were really cool. A lot of times, beginner duets are really lame and not very musical, and in my experience that goes doubly true for jazz duets. I went to your site and immediately bought all the clarinet duets. I got the advanced ones for myself, the intermediate for my few high school students, and the beginners for the junior high kids I teach during the day. Thank you so much for writing/sharing your music. After hearing so many really lame beginner level duets yours really are refreshing, they truly are good music that is fun to play.

Great pieces of music . Simple to get a great result but challening enough to make them insteresting .
Very simple songs for 2 clarinets. Good to train the ensamble playing. You should have a good recording mixer available. A speed indication for the beginners would be helpful. Ulli
Marvelous for the kids. I liked it so much that I'm gonna buy it again
Excellent! I would be gratful for youtube version for all songs. My son has begun this september with clarinet and I would like to teach him Mephis in the simple key from the book and we don´t have a backtrack. I have baught also intermediate duets and it includes backtracks and playalongs. We really need this, because the rythm is the point of it all!!! Thx and have a nice time Aja
Exactly what we needed
You can’t have more fun for under $10 with all your clothes on! I started playing clarinet in 1966, 54 years ago and these beginner duets are fun to play, strait forward but interesting. I play both parts with myself (social distancing) into my DAW and jam along. I hope to live long enough to try the intermediate duets, but that’s not likely. Thanks Nick for making these available.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing through these duets, as a beginner clarinet player. They were accessible enough that I didn't have to struggle immensely to play them, but just challenging enough to sustain my interest. I would recommend this collection of pieces to anyone starting out on the instrument.
Very easy to order and download, and all prints off really well. Some lovely"simple" tunes but there are some hidden challenges that make this a decent learning exercise, too - plenty of accidentals, often multiple in one bar, that keeps one on one's toes when reading or sight-reading. Some good work outs on the low notes, too, F / F# and G# and E all in short order on several tunes. Makes for a good practice routine. The only confusing bit (for me) is where there are a few enharmonic accidentals in the same piece and even once (at least) the same bar e.g. a Bb and an A# I don't know if it's intentional, but it certainly keeps one's brain sharp. I haven't recorded the duets yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so. Definitely get the next set once I've mastered this.
The purchase experience went smoothly and the .pdf music booklet is high quality. These pieces are accessible for early players, yet give you just enough challenge with optional register changes and rhythms to for a player ready for a bit more. Nice resource!
I like the tunes and the fact that each tune (so far) includes some accidentals but not so many that it overwhelms a beginner. On the contrary, these jazzy little tunes encourage a way of internalizing the swing rhythm while learning some alternate fingerings plus different articulations. There is more in here than meets the eyes (and ears). Once I finish, I will move right to the intermediate. Given these are duets, it’s like getting twice as much bang for the buck.
Perfect for my daughter and her friend - both 3rd graders learning to play the clarinet via the school music program. Upon seeing the video of Delta Blues on youtube, my daughter decided to learn it. Purchasing the music was easy and it was great to have the PDF immediately. Her clarinet teacher really likes the book as well. Well done!
Diese Musik ist mit Schülern sehr sehr gut zu erarbeiten.
Excellent! Really easy and immediate download was great
Always love Nick's books. Easy Clarinet Duets is perfect for the new Jazz player young or old. Thanks, Nick.
I haven't had the chance to play through all the duets yet, but I've listened to them online and they sound good. I enjoy playing along with the recordings. The duets are more interesting musically than most other beginner blues/jazz pieces or arrangements I've encountered previously. Good work!
Its good for my expierence as beginner (as a young 70 years old!)
