The Chromatic Enclosure Lab — Living Jazz Standard Library
Master the ultimate bebop language system over 10+ essential jazz standards.
Interactive Soundslice workouts. Video tutorials. Zero wasted practice time.
To be truly free as a jazz musician, you have to learn how to play across the harmony. And in jazz education, the most powerful system for developing this skill is chromatic enclosures.
The Chromatic Enclosure Lab is a hands-on, highly leveraged practice environment designed to do one thing: train you to chromatically embellish the harmony of some of the most famous jazz standards in history.
Here's the Deal
Instead of releasing this as a static, finished course, I am for the first time in Jazzduets history releasing this as a living, growing library. Right now, the Lab is still under construction — but the first 10 standards are ready to go.
The entire experience is hosted on the state-of-the-art Thinkific platform, so all your downloadable assets and interactive Soundslice files are organized in one seamless place.
Because you're getting in early, you can grab the entire Lab right now for just $25. That's $2.50 per standard — including the tutorial and interactive practice tools. It's an insane value that cannot last (see below why).
What Are Chromatic Enclosures?
A chromatic enclosure is a melodic technique used to target and highlight specific "destination" tones — usually the root, 3rd, 5th, or 7th — by surrounding them with upper and lower neighboring notes before resolving. Instead of stepping directly to a target note, you enclose it. These embellishments are at the heart of the bebop lines played by greats like Charlie Parker, Freddie Hubbard, and Hampton Hawes.
How the Lab Works (and Why It's Different)
This is not a dry, static theory course. It is a living, expanding library of highly targeted workouts. For every essential standard in the Lab, you get a complete practice package:
- Two, three, and four-note approach exercises + variations
- Deep-Dive Video Tutorial: Nick breaks down the specific enclosure shapes, showing exactly how they target strong chord tones (root, 3rd, 5th, and 7th) on beats 1 and 3
- Interactive Soundslice Integration: Analysis + notes on screen. Notation and score synced — slow tempo to 50%, loop difficult bars, transpose to any key, works on any device
- Complete Asset Pack: Clean, downloadable PDFs in standard notation, optimized for printing
