The Chromatic Enclosure Lab — Living Jazz Standard Library
Master the ultimate bebop language system over 10+ essential jazz standards.
Interactive Soundslice workouts + Video tutorials + Core Jazz Standards = Zero wasted practice time.
To be “free” as a Jazz musician is to command the fundamental harmony of the core repertoire - and one of the most powerful systems for developing this ability is Chromatic Enclosure Technique.
The Chromatic Enclosure Lab is a hands-on, highly leveraged practice environment designed to do one thing: train you to intuitively embellish the harmony of history’s most famous jazz tunes in the most enjoyable and friction-free way.
One of a Kind
There are countless resources that teach chromatic enclosures in isolation — showing the technique in a vacuum, truncated with a half note or whole note, and leaving you wondering: how do I actually use this in a real tune?
The Chromatic Enclosure Lab is the first resource to systematically apply enclosure technique directly to the jazz standard repertoire — showing you how to daisy-chain enclosures together across real harmonic progressions, the way the bebop masters actually played.
“This is the first method I’ve encountered that actually shows how to make enclosures work in context. Countless other resources just stop at the exercises — showing the enclosure in a vacuum. This is the first to show you how to daisy-chain enclosures together across real tunes.”
— Alfred, Jazzduets student
What Does “Living” Mean?
The Lab isn’t a static course you buy and shelve. It’s a living, breathing resource that grows and improves over time — in three distinct ways:
- Quantity — More tunes. The number of jazz standards in the Lab will keep increasing. Every new standard added is automatically available to all existing members at no extra cost.
- Detail — Scores that evolve: The interactive Soundslice scores can be updated at any time to answer student questions as they arise. When a score is updated, you see the changes instantly — live, on your device, automatically.
- Discussion — A real conversation: Each lesson includes a discussion tab where you can ask questions, share insights, and interact directly. This isn’t a one-way resource — it’s a dialogue.
Evolving Asset Library
Instead of a regular finished learning resource, JazzDuets is publishing this lab as a dynamic, growing ecosystem. It is expanding by the week, however the first 10 foundational standard workouts are already fully loaded and ready to transform your playing.
The entire experience is hosted on the state-of-the-art Thinkific platform, so all your downloadable assets and interactive Soundslice files are organized in one place.

What is Thinkific? The Chromatic Enclosure Lab is hosted on Thinkific — a truly state-of-the-art platform. I chose it specifically because this course is packed with dense files, video demonstrations, and media. Thinkific gives me the tools to present and structure everything beautifully on your screen, making it incredibly easy and enjoyable for you to navigate from day one.
What Are Chromatic Enclosures? A chromatic enclosure is a melodic technique used to target and highlight specific “destination” tones — usually the root, 3rd, 5th, or 7th — by surrounding them with upper and lower neighboring notes before resolving. Instead of stepping directly to a target note, you enclose it. These embellishments are at the heart of the tremendous bebop lines played by greats like Charlie Parker, Freddie Hubbard, and Hampton Hawes.
